Spotify Warped
The event of the year for music fans, artists and data freaks. Spotify Wrapped, a personalised, annual review of listening habits for users of the UK’s most popular streaming service.
This year marked the decade anniversary of Spotify Wrapped, and promised to provide an experience which was “more captivating, layered, and revealing than ever before.”
But... was it really?
Every year, myself and many users of Spotify eagerly await to see our statistics. Recording listening habits from January until mid-November, Wrapped promises to showcase your year in music.
Yet each year, it feels like my stats couldn’t be further from the truth – or I’m just too scared to admit to myself how terrible my music taste is.
My top albums showcase a measly few I listened to once or twice, but completely ignore ones I had on heavy rotation. My top song was said to be played ‘on repeat’ but I only streamed it 28 times? And my listening age is 52, despite being chronically plagued by a Charli xcx obsession.
Make it make sense Spotify, although I suppose that’s hard when AI is generating the data for you.
To compete with Spotify, I tracked every album I’ve listened to this year. January to December. Here is my own version, Sam vs Spotify.
